Our happy hens are fed only organic feed and veggie scraps from our own kitchen. They free-range often, and get plenty of sunshine, fresh air, and love. Healthy hens make the best eggs, and we’re proud to give them the good life they deserve.

"The Mini-Nubian is a mid-sized goat being of mixed Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian origin. It is known for being a graceful, elegant animal standing between 23-31 inches and comes in any color or pattern of short, fine, glossy hair. This mid-sized goat is known for its ease of milking; producing a high quantity and quality of milk whose butterfat yield is similar to that of the standard Nubian." Our small herd of Mini Nubians is raised with care, intention, and respect for their natural rhythms. These gentle, long-eared goats are known for their friendly personalities and rich, creamy milk; perfect for the homestead or family farm.We raise our goats holistically, using the same philosophy that guides the rest of Hearthbeat Homestead. Our goats enjoy chemical-free alfalfa hay, organic grains, and plenty of sunshine and foraging walks. When they need support, we turn first to herbs, nutrition, and natural care, avoiding conventional allopathic methods whenever possible. Our Mini Nubians are 5th and 7th generation, bred for both temperament and milk quality. Kids can be made available registered with the MDGA (Miniature Dairy Goat Association). We look forward to welcoming new kids to the herd. A limited number are occasionally available for purchase, and we love connecting with others who appreciate these sweet, hardy goats and the holistic lifestyle we raise them with.If you’re interested in adding Mini Nubians to your homestead, get in touch to learn more about our herd and upcoming kidding season.
Our homesteading journey began in 2014 while living in a small suburban home. We were blessed with established fruit trees in our backyard, where we learned to preserve the harvest through cider pressing and making preserves. We also started a small vegetable garden with tomatoes, cucumbers, and our first herb garden, complete with an herb spiral. Our next home offered more space, so we quickly dove even further into homesteading, learning valuable lessons along the way. We expanded our garden, grew a larger herb garden, and added chickens, rabbits, and bees.In late 2024, we found our forever home on a 7-acre wooded property in Southeast Iowat. While the land offers plenty of space, the flat, open areas are limited, so we’re applying creativity and permaculture principles to design our homestead. We’re excited to begin the next chapter of our journey and start setting up our new homestead for success!

Our flock is fed organic, non-GMO, soy-free, and corn-free feed. They enjoy regular supervised free-ranging and are treated to tasty kitchen scraps daily. Visit the link below to learn about the pros and cons of free-ranging from our favorite “lunatic farmer.”
